How do I replace perished silicone sealant between the gas cooktop and the stone benchtop?

The sealant acts as a gap filler between the cooktop and the benchtop and is flaking away at the edges nearest the burners that are used most

We recommend cutting away the worst of the old silicone using a sharp knife. Once it has been cut away, you can use Selleys Silicone Remover to get rid of the remaining silicone. This is applied to the remaining silicone and left for at least 2 hours. The softened silicone can then be removed with a scraper. Clean the area with methylated spirits and allow it to thoroughly dry. You can the apply a new bead of sealant. Around a cook top we would recommend using our Wet Area sealant. It has excellent temperature resistance up to 150°C.
